A NaNoing we will go

Finally, after a very slow start to NaNo I have gotten to the point where it is chugging along. While I should be at the halfway point by now - 25,000 words - I left off at 11,969 words last night before stumbling into bed. And I do mean stumbling; I think I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.

I knew the early years of Obed's life were going to be a challenge, but it really bugged me I had such a hard time churning out words. Now that I am at the most interesting point - the beginning of Jesus' ministry - I think the word count will move along smoothly. The only reason I stopped yesterday was because my eyes were closing as I typed.

I already popped in a few more words this morning. I am off to my daughter's school later to help the Kindegarten children make yarn dolls. They will pretend they are cornhusk dolls, which they are taking on the maiden voyage of the Mayflower. I got the idea from a newsletter I received from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society in De Smet, SD. But more about my Laura Ingalls Wilder fixation later.

Here's hoping I enter week three of NaNo with some stupendous word counts.

NaNoWriMo, here I come

Well, I'm biting the bullet. Tomorrow is the kick off for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). This will be my first attempt at writing an entire novel over the span of 30 days. I still feel like I have a bunch of research to do, but I should have enough done to get a good start.

Here is a brief synopsis of my NaNoWriMo project: The Shepherd's Journey

On the night of Christ's birth, young Obed is tending sheep with his father and two older brothers. After visiting baby Jesus, they proclaim Him as the Messiah. But a tragedy turns the family away from God. All except Obed, who can't get the visions of the angels out of his mind.

Thirty years later Jesus Christ begins his ministry, and Obed is still curious about who this man really is. After rumors of Christ's Resurrection circulate, he seeks out the apostles to find the answer to the question that has been burning in his mind for over thirty years - Who is Jesus Christ?
